The drive up is exceptionally scenic.
Along every step of the way you're surrounded by the West Coast
Mountains and before you the lush green farmland waves in the breeze.
Off in the distance is the 8000-foot Mt Currie that lets you know this
is the Pemberton valley and just outside of town, at its foot, is the
home of The Meadows at Pemberton golf course and the Black Squirrel
Restaurant & Pub. Welcome to Pemberton.
For those that don’t
know, or have never heard of Pemberton, British Columbia, it is the
friendly and slightly rustic, old west village located 30min north of
the Resort Municipality of Whistler on Highway 99. Named for Joseph Despard Pemberton, a Surveyor General for the Hudson’s Bay Company in
the 1850’s, “Port Pemberton” first appeared on a map in 1859. Located at
the head of Lillooet Lake, the port served as a stopover for travelers
heading north in pursuit of gold. By the early 1880’s and as the gold
rush cooled, more and more people chose to settle way from the original
site and on the rich farmlands of the Pemberton Valley.
As the
fastest growing community in BC (BC Stats 2005), Pemberton village is
actually outpacing that of Whistler as more and more people discover the
agricultural and recreational rich valley. With waterfalls, camping,
fishing, and an abundance of wildlife to see while golfing, hiking,
mountain biking or cross-country skiing, it’s not hard to find a way to
spend a day of activity or peaceful relaxation.
Here is a short list of
just some of the sightseeing and activities that can be enjoyed
